Festive Greetings!

Posted in Everyday rants on December 28, 2007 by kassidy

I’ve not posted anything since the school holidays started… and I’ve heard rumors of my online persona having passed away along with my sense of humor. Well, I’m glad to announce that both are untrue Anyway. This date being in the midst of Christmas and the impending New Year, I’d like to wish all of you happy holidays, and a new beginning in 2008 awaits!

For those who actually give a hoot, I’ve been busy working since the start of the holidays. My rate of spending has been horrible. And I’ve no choice but to search for alternative methods to finance my splurges. Most recent acquisitions include an Aldo male messenger bag and a Kenneth Cole timepiece. Excellent stuff I tell ya. I’d like to get a pair of white jeans… so if anybody has any good recommendations where to get a steal, buzz me.

Speaking of buzz, for those who’ve using SingTel as your phone service provider, PLEASE sms me and indicate who are you and what service provider you’re using. That’s because cheapo me has signed up for the STUDENT PLAN, which has free incoming calls and free smses to SingTel users. ^^ So, my number is 91250900. My old number, 90462900 is still in use.

I’ve some new year resolutions that I really am desperate to achieve(for once). I hear the sneers… but I’ll make it this ttime! And for some audience participation, I’d like you guys to give me a short testimonial/comment that states your view on me, whether good or bad, and regardless of how long you’ve known me. Just tell me what do you think of me. It’ll help!

P.S – Alvin cracked me up again on Christmas Eve. His message read, “Merry Christmas people, Enjoy it cuz I’m sure Santa didn’t come, and you definitely didn’t get your presents.” Haha. I thought it was funny. Cynical, but funny. I like.

Happy holidays guys!

P.S.S – I do hate the holidays you know.

Something Different to Talk About Today.

Hello guys. I was on the way home today… and coming across this article kinda got me peeved. Let me provide a soft background. Below is the letter written by the above to ST.

No threat to security but cops threatened to ‘remove’ duo
ON MONDAY afternoon, my friend and I were walking along Orchard Road when we were stopped by a few policemen just after Orchard Towers who enquired as to our destination.

We were just strolling along and complied readily when they asked for our particulars. They explained that the area was a ‘protected area’ due to the Asean Summit taking place at the Shangri-La Hotel and that they had a duty to check everyone in the area.

I thought it was odd that there were many people along that stretch of road but we were the only ones stopped, so I asked for the reason. Officer Alvin Lee explained that the rest would be stopped farther down as there were ‘many checkpoints’.

We continued on our way and were stopped again about 30m further down by another group of policemen who insisted that we turn back. When I asked why we were being singled out for special attention, my query was met with ‘This is a protected area’ and ‘This is your last warning, leave now or we will remove you’ from someone who refused to identity himself beyond saying he was ‘Patrick Lim from the police’. All the while, another policeman was videotaping me and yet another was scribbling something furiously.

Surely, I had a right to know why my freedom of movement was being proscribed. It is alarming that all I got in response were subtle threats and pure assertions of authority, without proper explanation. What is even more disconcerting is that other people along that stretch of road were not being stopped at all, despite what Assistant Superintendent Lee said.

My friend and I were in no way ‘compromising security’. The policemen were doing their job but what are the guidelines to their exercise of authority? Can they simply ‘remove’ anybody they please?

Now, all this is well and dandy. Apparently it acquits him of any wrong doing at all. Apparently. If you take a closer look and compare with what it says in the newspaper report, he admits that he in fact, was not entirely true with the police. Singaporeans are indeed oppressed with regards to our rights to protests. While that is the main issue, I would like to sidetrack to something which I find glaring.

In the letter, he portrays himself as an innocent passerby who is asked to vacate the premises just because he happens to be wearing red(the color that the protesters are supposed to wear). Whereas in a later interview with TNP(the new paper), he freely admits he lied.

Now, my beef with him is, having so openly and daringly posted on facebook that he wanted to join the protest, he chickened out and lied when the police questioned him. A wonderful example of no action talk only. Is this what our education is teaching? Is such a person really what we want to become a practitioner of law?(he is a law undergrad at nus) that is, if he even manages to make it. For somebody who had the guts to claim to want to join the protest and turning tail when turned away by the police because he was at a protected area, albeit intentionally, being an undergraduate, much less somebody who is taking law was my last expectation of him. Maybe a ploy to impress people? Yawn.

If only some(namely 2) universities looked upon more than just results. That would be asking too much.

An Official Request.

Hi guys. Since I don’t have a tagboard because wordpress doesn’t support the very useful addon yet, though I think that the comments link is so much more organized. I would like whoever reads my blog, and whoever has my site linked, to leave a comment now and then, and also to those who I’ve not linked yet(if you have me linked as well), drop me a line and your link please.

Anyway. School life is passing by so quickly. 5 more academic weeks and I’ll be a year2 student! Seems like yesterday it was sem1. I think time really flies as one grows older. So it’s important I maintain childish youthful. So, I love my school mates for the moment. They are what makes it bearable. In addition to my laptop and games of course.

Continuing in my line of random rantings, I went to Vivo City today. I seriously am so bored with everything in my life. Nothing is going on. Give me a fucking break…
